Dance Around the World!
2nd and 3rd Grade Program
Thursday March 20th at 7:00pm in the Gym
Dear Parents,
Below is a list of costumes for each class. If your child is having a hard time coming up with their costume please let me know at
kristinahudson@re3j.com. T-Shirts can be turned inside out if they have a picture or logo on them and long skirts can be borrowed from friends or family. The ARC and thrift stores are great places to find clothing at a cheaper price. Hobby Lobby and Michaels also have solid colored shirts.  NO BLUE JEANS AS COSTUMES!

Costumes should be brought to school on WEDNESDAY, March 19th in a bag labeled with your child’s name! The performance will be the next day (Thursday, March 20th) for the school (2:30pm) and then again in the evening for parents and family (7:00pm).

Students need to be back at school at 6:30pm for the evening performance and they should go to their classrooms at that time. Attendance will be taken at 6:45pm. Please do not send your child early, the teachers need to go grab dinner and are not expected back in their classrooms until 6:30pm.

What Are We Doing in February?

1st Grade:

1st Graders are working on musical melodies. We had fun with Matt the Melody ball and his friends to create melodies that move up, down, and jump.

We are exploring melodies on the xylophones. We can play Mary Had a Little Lamb, play simple accompaniments, and show off our melody-making skills by creating and performing our own made up melodies. 1st Graders are LOVING playing on instruments!

This month we will be starting to get ready for our music program. 1st Graders will be performing Barnyard MoosicalWe meet a unique and talented group of animals living at an unusual farm. Between the gourmet goats that refuse to eat garbage, a chorus line of hoofing cows, neat-nik pigs, and funky dancing chickens, the musical will be sure to tickle the imagination and funny bone. Students will be working hard to learn all of the songs by memory, create and learn their class dance, and audition for speaking parts. We will be busy, busy, busy!

Barnyard Moosical will be performed on Thursday, April 24th

2nd Grade:

2nd Graders have been enjoying time on the instruments. We have created sound effects for stories, played our own melodies on xylophones, and practiced and performed a Japanese song with melody, accompaniments, drums, and bass bars. We are proud of how good we sound!

2nd and 3rd Grade are also preparing for their music program, Dance Around the World. In this program students sing songs and show off dances from countries around the world. Students have started learning these songs and dances, and are excited to share what they have learned about Israel, Spain, Greece, USA, Nigeria, Italy, and many others. We are working to memorize songs, learn our dances, and audition for speaking parts. We are excited to perform for the school and our families.

Dance Around the World will be performed on Thursday, March 20th

3rd Grade:

3rd Graders have been playing recorders this month. They are super excited to play these instruments and learn to read music. We have mastered three notes: G, A, and B. Students can play Hot Cross Buns, Mary Had a Little Lamb and many others. 3rd, 4th, and 5th Graders will be playing recorder often in the coming months.

4th Graders have been playing recorders this month. They are super excited to play these instruments and learn to read music. We have mastered three notes: G, A, and B, and are working on learning C. Students can play Hot Cross Buns, French Song, Merrily We Roll Along, and many others. We have even created our own recorder songs and learned to play them with partners.  3rd, 4th, and 5th Graders will be playing recorder often in the coming months.

We are also working to learn to read notes on the staff. The staff is used by musicians when reading music. It tells us what notes to play. We have been playing a game called Staff Jump, where students must run and jump on a giant staff taped on the floor. They must land on the correct line or space. Teamwork is essential and students compete for which team can land on the correct notes the quickest.
